Thursday Notebook

The setting was all set for Jennifer Dawson and partner Dayne Gingrich for the gold medal and to complete the Triple Crown for Dawson, but Kris Anderson and Dave Weinbach had other ideas.  Anderson and Weinbach, coming out of the consolation bracket because of an earlier loss to Dawson and Gingrich, had other ideas taking the 2 out of 3 (11-6, 11-8) and forcing the one game to 15 for the title.  In that final game Jennifer Dawson shed her sleeves and took matters into her own hands and took partner Dayne Gingrich with her defeating Anderson and Weinbach by a score of 15-11 for the gold medal.  Kris Anderson and Dave Weinbach end up with the silver medal, while Julie Johnson and Mircea Morariu take home the bronze medal.

Anna Leigh Waters plays during the Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships Presented by Pickleball Central at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021.

In women’s pro singles it was all about Anna Leigh Waters today as she punched her ticket to Championship Sunday by taking down both Jill Braverman (11-2, 11-6) and Irina Tereschenko (11-2, 11-5).  In the bronze medal match Braverman and Tereschenko battled it out through two rain delays before Tereschenko retired near the end of the second game.  That will pit Braverman up against Waters this Sunday and you don’t want to miss this one!!

On the men’s pro singles side of things there were some amazing matches all day long.  Zane Navratil moved on through the bracket undefeated as he beat Grant Bond (12-10, 3-11, 11-3), Frank Anthony Davis (11-0, 11-7), and Tyson McGuffin (11-8, 11-4).  McGuffin ended up fighting his way out of the bronze medal match against the young phenom JW Johnson in 3 games (4-11, 11-2, 11-2).

McGuffin was announced as the Pro Men’s Singles Gold medal winner via walkover as Navratil withdrew due to personal circumstances.

The amateur events of the day included Women’s Skill/Age Singles 19+, 35+ and Men’s Skill/Age Singles 19+, 35+ All daily brackets and event results are available from the Event website main menu.
