Anna Leigh Waters / Leigh Waters and Tyson McGuffin / Riley Newman Advance To Finals On Sunday

The Pro Womens Doubles resulted in Anna Leigh and Leigh Waters advancing to the Gold Medal Match after battling all day through the draw.  In their first match of the day they met the dynamic sister duo of Maggie and Mary Brascia who took them down in game 1 by a score of 11-7.  The Waters bounced back nicely though in games 2 and 3 winning 11-2, 11-2 to move on to the semi-finals.  In the semis they faced Lucy Kovalova and Andrea Koop and won a tight match (11-7, 11-9) putting them into the winner’s bracket final against Jessie Irvine and Catherine Parenteau.  In that match they lost a tight first game (13-11) but then in typical Waters fashion they bounced back and won 11-5, 11-6 earning a right to defend their 2019 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championship title. They will face Lea Jansen and Irina Tereschenko who took down Jessie Irvine and Catherine Parenteau in the bronze medal match 11-5, 11-6.

Players compete in a match during the Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships Presented by Pickleball Central at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021.

In Pro Men’s Doubles it was all Tyson McGuffin and Riley Newman as they move on to the Gold Medal Match in impressive fashion.  McGuffin and Newman dispensed of Dave Weinbach and Dayne Gingrich in the first round 11-8, 11-0.  In the second round they faced off against Wes Gabrielsen and Erik Lange who pushed them in both games, but eventually McGuffin and Newman won 11-7, 11-9 in two games.  In the winner’s bracket final, it was a battle as junior JW Johnson and partner Callan Dawson proved why they belonged there by taking game one 11-7. In games 2 and 3 though, it was all about McGuffin and Newman bouncing back and winning both games 11-7, 11-4 and punching their ticket to the gold medal match tomorrow on Championship Sunday!  In the bronze medal match Johnson and Dawson would face Gabrielsen and Lange to see who would move on to Sunday’s Gold medal match and it was all Johnson and Dawson early as they took game one 11-2.  In game 2 it was a much tighter match, but Johnson and Dawson would eventually come out on top 11-9 for a rematch against McGuffin and Newman for the 2021 title of men’s gold medalist at the Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships presented by Pickleball Central.
