Following Sunday’s incredible day of Women’s Doubles action, Monday it was all about the guys as a packed field competed in the Men’s Doubles Skill/Age Skill/Age 4.0/4.5/5.0 (all ages). The day featured a number of expected medal winners but we also had several upset matches that produced some incredible individual points. Here’s a summary of some of the highlights:
Men’s 4.0 19+ gold went to Adam MacKinnon and Theo MacKinnon
Men’s 4.0 35+ Naveed Butt and Shawn Radford
Men’s 4.0 50+ Mark Menges and Chip Metzer
Men’s 5.0 35+ Dave Weinbach and Matt Wright
Men’s 5.0 19+ Matt Goebel and Tyson McGuffin
Of note, the teams of Jim Hackenberg/Del Kauss and Yoda Friedenberg/Stu Hasings took bronze in their age groups. In the 19+ 5.0, Wesley Gabrielsen/Morgan Evans took silver while Daniel Moore/Brian Ashworth brought home the bronze. On Tap for Today: Tuesday, Nov. 6
Today will feature Men’s and Women’s Singles Skill/Age – 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 (all ages). Competition starts at 8:00 AM.
The Boathouse has coffee and limited food service available starting at 7AM. The Margaritaville License to Chill Bar and Stage kicks off with full food service beginning at 10AM with bar service 11AM – 8PM. New today… the Margaritaville Pop-Up Bar will be open from 10AM – 5PM down by the lower courts. For evening entertainment, the Michael Keeth Band will be performing from 4-7PM in the Margaritaville Shade Pavilion 2. Players and spectators are encouraged to stop by the Interactive Fun Zone from 8AM-8PM for ping-pong, corn hole, and photo opportunities.
Be sure to also stop by the USA Pickleball Information Center and sign up for a guided tour of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Stadium 1. With over 16,000 seats, this is the second largest tennis stadium in the world and one of the crown jewels for the sport. Go behind the scenes look at the media rooms, player interview room, luxury boxes and more! Two FREE tours of 30 people each are offered each day.
Today, we have two special events planned. The St. Jude Skills Challenge will take place from 11AM-2PM. Proceeds of the event are benefiting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Players will be challenged in 5 different skills:
1. Serving at targets
2. Baseline drop shots into the kitchen
3. Serve & Return of Serves 2 feet of baseline
4. Cross-court dink rally
5. Bing-Bang Challenge
The teams for this event include mixed, women’s and men’s teams.
New this year, we have the Parent/Child Round Robin from 4PM-8PM. This event gives parent’s and their kids an opportunity to play/complete together here at the tournament. Both events will be taking place on practice courts 13 and 14. These are located just west of pickleball courts 22 and 24.
