The participants of the Media Challenge at the 2018 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championship on Sunday Nov. 4, 2018.
Sunday, November 4
With a successful first day of Mix-Doubles play completed, all eyes were on the women today for the Women’s Doubles Skill/Age 4.0/4.5/5.0 (all ages). Some of the women’s teams really showed off their spirit and enthusiasm for this year’s event with many color-coordinated teams out on the courts. The women this year are also well represented with divisions ranging from 19+ to 80+. Special recognition goes out to Anna Leigh Waters, who at age 11 is our youngest female competitor today and also to Doris “Big D” Castaneda who is participating this year at 90 years young!
Today, the women collected 60 sets of medals, bringing our total medal count to 387 teams in just 2 days. Top gold medal winners today include:
Catherine Parenteau/Leigh Waters: 19+ 5.0
Katie Dyer/Mary Helen Atkins: 35+ 5.0
Kris Anderson/Bonnie Williams: 50+ 5.0
Yvonne Ting/Clare Grabher: 55+ 5.0
Helle Sparre/Mona Burnett: 60+ 5.0
Yvonne Hackenberg/Hilary Marold: 65-70+ 5.0
The crowd was also very entertained during the special Media Challenge event played on the Margaritaville Championship Court this evening. Local media personalities were partnered up 7 of our top pro players:
The winner of the media challenge was Andrew Krasny who in turn, announced during his post match interview that his charity (The Champions Volunteer Foundation) would distribute the $3,000 cash prize to the other six charitable organizations. Tonight, everyone was a “winner”!
